Neil Ellwood Peart (/ p ɪər t / PEERT; September 12, 1952 – January 7, 2020) was a Canadian and American musician, known as the drummer, percussionist, and primary lyricist of the rock band Rush. He was known to fans by the nickname "the Professor", [ 1 ] derived from the Gilligan's Island character of the same name . [ 2 ]
While Peart’s wife, Carrie Nuttall, is off on a surfing vacation in Mexico, he decides to take his CD collection and his new BMW Z8 convertible to Big Bend National Park in Texas. He plays music from notable bands such as Linkin Park, Vertical Horizon, and even Rush’s then-newest album, Vapor Trails.
After a time of grief and recovery, and while visiting longtime Rush photographer Andrew MacNaughtan in Los Angeles, Peart was introduced to his future wife, photographer Carrie Nuttall, whom he married on September 9, 2000. By the following year, Peart decided to return to Rush.
