Naturally Fresh was founded in 1966 as Eastern Foods by Robert H. Brooks, the founder of Hooters of America, to sell non-dairy creamer to the airline industry. In 1980, Eastern Foods launched the Naturally Fresh brand and in 2002 the company name was changed to reflect the brand.
The college subsequently announced it would be renamed the Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment pending approval from the UK Board of Trustees. [4] As of June 16, 2023, the college is officially renamed the Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment.

In 1997, Farm Fresh made local headlines due to financial problems, which led to filing of bankruptcy. In March 1998, Farm Fresh was purchased by Richfood Holdings, Inc., which also owned Shoppers Food & Pharmacy. The company would have closed but the purchase by Richfood (Farm Fresh's biggest vendor) kept the company alive.
