The Cleveland Monsters are a professional ice hockey team based in Cleveland, that play in the American Hockey League (AHL). The team debuted in 2007 as the Lake Erie Monsters and since 2015 has served as the top affiliate of the Columbus Blue Jackets of the National Hockey League (NHL).
The Lake Erie Monsters changed their name to the Cleveland Monsters on August 9, 2016. The Las Vegas Gladiators of the Arena Football League announced on October 16, 2007, that they would move to Quicken Loans Arena, becoming the Cleveland Gladiators .

The 2013–14 edition of the AHL Outdoor Classic took place on December 13, 2013, and was hosted by the Rochester Americans against the Lake Erie Monsters at Frontier Field in Rochester, New York. The Americans won the game 5–4 in a shootout before a crowd of 11,015 spectators.
The franchise was moved to Cleveland to replace the departed Cleveland Barons and resumed play in 2007 as the Lake Erie Monsters. After the suspension of the IHL/AHL Grizzlies, a new ownership group purchased the Utah Grizzlies identity and resurrected a team of the same name in the ECHL that started playing in the 2005–06 season.
On June 11, 2016, the Lake Erie Monsters of the American Hockey League won the Calder Cup, defeating the Hershey Bears at Quicken Loans Arena to win the series 4–0. [46] The team, also owned by Dan Gilbert, shares its arena with the Cavaliers, who won the NBA title eight days later. It was the 10th overall Calder Cup won by a Cleveland team.
In 2007, Callander returned to Cleveland to work with the city's then-new American Hockey League franchise, the Lake Erie Monsters. He is a color analyst for the team's TV broadcasts, [3] serves as an assistant coach for games not televised, and works in the team's front office as Vice President of Hockey Affairs and Team Services.
