Levi Jackson Wilderness Road Park is a former state park located just south of London, Kentucky in Laurel County. It is now a city park under the auspices of the city of London, KY. The park encompasses 896 acres (363 ha) and includes a section of the Wilderness Road that early settlers used to reach Kentucky.
The area encompassing the Edge of Appalachia Preserve was first studied by ecologist Emma Lucy Braun in the 1920s. However, it was not until 1959 when the Nature Conservancy purchased 42 acres (170,000 m 2) near Lynx, Ohio that the Edge of Appalachia Preserve was created and established as a protected preserve.
An early map of the Falls of the Ohio; Louisville, Kentucky is in the lower right. The shallowness of the falls provided a favored crossing point for bison in pre-settlement times and, later, an easy crossing for Native Americans. In 1990, a section of the area in Indiana became the Falls of the Ohio State Park.
