The International Harvester Company (IHC) has been building its own proprietary truck engines since the introduction of their first truck in 1907. International tended to use proprietary diesel engines. In the 1970s, IHC built the DVT 573 V-8 diesel of 240 and 260 hp (179 and 194 kW) but these were not highly regarded and relatively few were sold.
The Navistar DT (Diesel Turbocharged or Diesel Turbo) engine family is a line of mid-range inline-6 diesel engines. With horsepower ratings ranging from 170 hp (130 kW) to 350 hp (260 kW), the Navistar DT engines are used primarily in medium-duty truck and bus applications such as school buses, although some versions have been developed for heavy-duty regional-haul and severe-service applications.
The Cockshutt 570 Super was introduced in 1961 with a 339-cubic-inch (5,560 cc) Hercules diesel engine that substantially increased performance. [1] [7] 1,680 570 Supers were built at Brantford in 1961 and 1962. [5] The 570 was the last Cockshutt-built tractor. [1]
The Series 92 engines were introduced in 1974. [8] Compared to the Series 71 engines they were derived from, the Series 92 featured a larger bore of 4.84025 ± 0.00125 in (122.942 ± 0.032 mm) and an identical stroke of 5 in (130 mm) for a nominal displacement per cylinder of 92 cu in (1,510 cc), from which the Series 92 derives its name.
Output was 325 hp (242 kW) at 3300 rpm and 560 lb⋅ft (759 N⋅m) at 2000 rpm, but as of 2005 that was increased to 570 lb⋅ft (773 N⋅m) at 2000 rpm. It also uses a 2nd generation (G-2) HEUI (Hydraulic-Electronic Unit injector ) direct injection fuel system, as well as a variable-geometry turbocharger , which is designed to reduce turbo lag ...
Earlier versions produced 28 hp (21 kW) at 4200 rpm with a slide-type carburetor and reduction drive. The Compact Radial Engines version is rated at 24 hp (18 kW) at 4200 rpm. Time between overhaul is rated as 300 hours. [1] [2] [4] The SD 570 shares the same bore and stroke as the smaller three-cylinder König SC 430 radial engine. [2] [4]
In 1964, horsepower increased to 365 hp (272 kW) for the newly named L-76 version, and 375 hp (280 kW) for the fuel injected L-84, making the L-84 the most powerful naturally aspirated, single-cam, production small-block V8 until the appearance of the 385 hp (287 kW), 395 lb⋅ft (536 N⋅m) Generation III LS6 in 2001. This block is one of ...
