La Brea Woman was a human whose remains were found in the La Brea Tar Pits in Los Angeles, California. The remains, first discovered in the pits in 1914, are the partial skeleton of a woman. [ 2 ] At around 18–25 years of age at death, she has been dated at 10,220–10,250 years BP (Before Present). [ 3 ]
She never did, and the ensuing investigation attracted national media attention. The girl was never located, and the case remains the oldest unsolved missing-persons case of this nature in the files of the Chicago Missing Persons Bureau. On July 26, 1974, the decomposing body of a woman was found by a 12-year-old girl in Provincetown, Massachusetts. The woman, who is believed to have died from a blow to the head, was missing both hands, a forearm, and several teeth. The body was exhumed in 1980, 2000, and 2013 in unsuccessful efforts to identify the woman.
