Where this is not the case, and where the subject uses a popular form of their name in everyday life, then care must be taken to avoid implying that a person who does not generally use all their forenames or who uses a familiar form has actually changed their name. Do not write, for example: John Edwards (born Johnny Reid Edwards, June 10, 1953).
When writing about women on Wikipedia, ensure articles do not use sexist language, perpetuate sexist stereotypes, or otherwise demonstrate prejudice against women. As of June 2019 [update] , 16.7% of editors on the English Wikipedia who have declared a gender say that they are female. [ 1 ]
Non-English vernacular names, when relevant to include, are handled like any other non-English terms: italicized as such, and capitalized only if the rules of the native language require it. Non-English names that have become English-assimilated are treated as English (ayahuasca, okapi).
Do not insert a nickname into the name, as in: Xen "Fisty" Zounds; unless the most common name for the subject in reliable sources is that exact form, with the nickname added mid-name, as in Benjamin "Pap" Singleton. This is quite rare. When it does arise, use the quotation marks so readers understand it is not part of the person's legal name.
