I can reccomend sample focus fairly highly. Operates a similar way to splice except because it's free you get a certain number credits each week and you can get more from submitting samples to their database (which takes a while because I think they manually check them for quality) each sample you download costs a credit.

Find something you would like to sample/chop, then put it in slicer/slices and play around with the parameters.
