Courtenay (/ ˈ k ɔːr t n i / KORT-nee) [1] is a city of about 26,000 on the east coast of Vancouver Island, in the Canadian province of British Columbia.It is the largest community and only city in the area commonly known as the Comox Valley, and the seat of the Comox Valley Regional District, which replaced the Comox-Strathcona Regional District.
The company was founded as The Brick Warehouse LP by brothers, John, Fred, and Bill Comrie. The first warehouse opened on September 1, 1971 in Edmonton , Alberta . Its first expansion was to Fort McMurray , Alberta in the 1970s and later acquired a competitor in the city of Calgary .

A U.S. post office was established on March 8, 1886, with the name of Courteney, Florida, which was corrected to Courtenay on May 6, 1893. Postmasters for this office included renowned novelist Professor Peck and Edward Porcher. The Courtenay post office closed on March 31, 1930, and the area was transferred to the Cocoa post office. [3]
