Tower on Fox Hill (also known locally as the War Memorial Tower) is a building located at the summit of Fox Hill in Rockville, Connecticut. [1] [2] The current tower, 72 feet (22 m) high, stands on the site of a former 60-foot (18 m) tower, which stood briefly during the late 19th century.
The museum also contains the O'Connell-Chapman Library, which has over 1000 volumes of Civil War literature, in addition to original copies of the 128 volumes of The War of the Rebellion: a Compilation of the Official Records of the Union and Confederate Armies. This was compiled by the US War Department and originally published from 1880–1901.
In 1967, Neil Ellis, a real estate developer with an interest in journalism, bought two weekly newspapers, the Rockville Journal and South and East Windsor Inquirer. The weeklies were merged into the daily Journal Inquirer in 1968. [1] The paper moved from a garage in the Rockville section of Vernon to its present location in Manchester in 1974.
