Ted Knight (born Tadeusz Wladyslaw Konopka; December 7, 1923 – August 26, 1986) was an American actor known for playing the comedic roles of Ted Baxter in The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Henry Rush in Too Close for Comfort and Judge Elihu Smails in Caddyshack.
She also played Ted Knight's wife in the role of photographer Muriel Rush on the 1980s situation comedy Too Close for Comfort. She was part of the first anchor team of the ABC morning show Good Morning America, paired with David Hartman, when that show launched in 1975.
First-run episodes of The Ted Knight Show were broadcast starting in April 1986. Twenty-two episodes were produced prior to the summer of 1986 and 12 had aired by mid-July. The revamped show was scheduled to resume production when Knight, who had been battling colon cancer since 1985, died on August 26, 1986.
