Sea Girt is a borough situated on the Jersey Shore, within Monmouth County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey.As of the 2020 United States census, the borough's population was 1,866, [9] an increase of 38 (+2.1%) from the 2010 census count of 1,828, [18] [19] which in turn had reflected a decline of 320 (−14.9%) from the 2,148 counted in the 2000 census.
The pond was originally connected to the sea by a small inlet and got its name because sailors would mistake it, in the dark, for the Manasquan Inlet, which is further south. This was alleviated by the building of the Sea Girt Lighthouse and stopped by the eventual filling in of the inlet.
