JCPenney was founded in 1902 as a group of dry goods stores that James Cash Penney managed as part of the Golden Rule chain, and incorporated under his own name in 1913. The stores initially located in downtown areas but shifted to shopping malls during the 1960s.

Town Center at Cobb (often called Town Center Mall), is a super-regional shopping mall located in Cobb County, Georgia near Atlanta. [3] The anchor stores are two Macy's stores, a Belk closing February 2025, and a JCPenney.
JCPenney announced in February plans to close two distribution facilities and 138 department stores this year to redirect resources in higher-performing locations and initiatives.
The building was constructed in 1929 as a warehouse for the J.C. Penney retail chain. It occupied the building until 1954, after which it was donated to the University of Missouri as a location for an education center, which never materialized.
