Almora is located at 41] in Almora district in Uttara It is situated 365 km north-east the national capital New Delhi and 415 km south-east of the state capital Dehradun . It lies in the revenue Division Kumaon [ 42 ] and is located 63 km north of Nainital , the administrative headquarters of Kumaon. [ 43 ]

Soban Singh Jeena University (SSJ University) is a state university [1] situated at Almora, Uttarakhand, India. Almora town was the administrative headquarters of the Kumaun district; which was formed in 1815 following the defeat of Gorkha army in the Anglo-Gorkha war and the 1816 Treaty of Sugauli. The Kumaun district then consisted of the complete Kumaon Division excluding the Terai district with its headquarters at Kashipur . [ 4 ]
The academic wing of the University is spread over in two campuses (Dev Singh Bisht (DSB) Campus, Nainital, and newly constructed Sir JC Bose Technical Campus at Bhimtal) with an area of 5,31,373 sq.mt. (160 acres), the total built up area being 3,00,000 sq. mt. The central administration office is in Sukhatal, Nainital.
