The Galena–Chicago trail was a stagecoach route located in northern Illinois that ran from the mid-to-late 1830s until 1854 (171 years ago) (). [1] As indicated by its name, the route linked Chicago, located in the northeast of the state, with Galena which was located in the lead mining district of the northwest.
Naperville (/ ˈ n eɪ p ər ˌ v ɪ l / NAY-pər-vil) is a city in DuPage and Will counties in the U.S. state of Illinois.It is a southwestern suburb of Chicago located 28 miles (45 km) west of the city on the DuPage River.
Naperville Township is one of nine townships in DuPage County, Illinois, USA. As of the 2020 census , its population was 104,765 and it contained 41,338 housing units. [ 2 ]
The Stage Inn (Section 14) was built along the Old State Road number 2, now U.S. Route 20, ½ mile east of Eleroy. The stone inn was a stop for the Frink, Walker & Company stage line that operated from Chicago to Galena 1839–1854.
The first major establishment, an inn and tavern, was built in 1838 by Julius Warren himself, as the family was skilled in timber and grain. The inn still stands today and was renovated in 2002. The town quickly blossomed with two mills and a plank road connecting it with Naperville and Winfield, on which Julius operated a stagecoach line.
