Georgia's 5th congressional district is a congressional district in the U.S. state of Georgia. The district was represented by Democrat John Lewis from January 3, 1987, until his death on July 17, 2020. Kwanza Hall was elected to replace Lewis on December 1, 2020, and served until January 3, 2021, when Nikema Williams took his place.
The district was created in 1982 when Oregon was granted a new congressional district as a result of reapportionment from the 1980 census. Denny Smith, who had represented Oregon's 2nd congressional district in the previous Congress, was re-elected in the 5th district in 1982 after it absorbed most of the western portion of the old 2nd.
Since 2025, the 5th district has been represented in the U.S. House of Representatives by Michael Baumgartner, a Republican. The seat was held by former Democratic Speaker of the House Tom Foley between 1965 and 1995 before he lost reelection to reelection to George Nethercutt in 1994 .
