The Federal Football Club was formed at the Imperial Hotel in Wagga Wagga in 1861, making it the oldest Australian rules football club outside of Victoria and the oldest football club of any code in New South Wales, however little else of the early history of the club now known as the Wagga Tigers is known. The University of New South Wales Australian National Football Club (UNSW-ANFC), also known as “the Whalies”, was formed in 1962 to participate in the Australian University Games, but it wasn’t until the following year that the club actually fielded a team.
