Olathia is a community in north-central Douglas County, Missouri United States. [1] It is located approximately six miles southeast of Mansfield along Missouri Route U and is nine miles northeast of Ava. It is on a ridge between Puncheon Camp Creek one-half mile to the northeast and Bryant Creek one and a quarter mile to the southwest. [2]
It was named for Thomas Hart Benton, a U.S. Senator from Missouri. [5] Benton township was divided into Marion township to the north and Benton township to the south in August 1845. [ 6 ] The current township was formed in January 1916 when Marion township and Benton township merged back together to form a single township.
