Descended from Belmont Women's College, founded in 1890 by schoolteachers Ida Hood and Susan Heron, the institution was incorporated in 1951 as Belmont College. Notre Dame de Namur University (NDNU) is a private Catholic university in Belmont, California, United States. It is the third oldest college in California and the first college in the state authorized to grant the baccalaureate degree to women. In 2021, the university began to transition to only operate as a graduate school.
Belmont University announced plans for the College of Law in 2009, with the first class beginning in 2011.
