I recently purchased a Camp Chef SG SmokePro after having a Traeger for years. I did my break in smoke and noticed a ridiculous amount of smoke escaping from the bottom around the ash dump. The ash dump was closed obviously but seemed strange to be losing so much smoke from the bottom. After...
Why you ask.....lol, because these cookers arent designed to hold temps like a true smoker they are like a oven. If you want more less or heat turn the dail on the thermostat and it automatically adds or subtracts the amount of pellets to achieve the desired temperature.
Not GFCI, power to the outlet is fine and is the power outlet I've been using since we moved in here. No luck with the fuse so far..nobody seems to have it in stock as it's 4A, not 1, 3, or 5. Had to resort to oven to cook. :( Will be calling Camp Chef tomorrow. Thanks to those who reached out!
Oct 27, 2020. #1. Hey all, long time listener, first time caller. I just got a new Camp Chef pellet grill. I tried some reverse seared steaks on it on the "high smoke" setting. It worked pretty good, but I noticed it was just cycling period of huge puffs of white smoke, with periods of barely any smoke. It seems that's the point of the high ...
That's not the real problem you're having though. Pellet grills need to run at low temps so the pellets can smolder to produce dense smoke. Try to keep it under 200F for 2-4 hours before raising the temp to finish cooking. Above 225F smoke production drops off rapidly.
1,150. Saugus, California. Nov 29, 2018. #2. Use rods, and I would suggest not using all-thread rod like he did. And for God's sake, and anybodies ankles, cut off the danged rod. I didn't see this guys shoes, but I'd bet they are Velcro closed. I would use solid (not pneumatic) tires. Solid wheels never get a flat tire.
Today, I finished a cook at 350, set it to shut down and walked away. About 5 minutes later, I noticed a lot of smoke coming through pellet hopper. After some investigating, I determined that the fire had traveled into the auger. I initially tried to feed the pellets, but the fan was stoking the fire.
In my opinion, not the traeger, have read too many posts of issues with them. Know several that really like their camp chef pellet grill. Probably even more that love their rec tec and the customer service. I bought a Green Mountain pellet smoker this year and love it!
Thanks to everyone for your help. Went out and bought a Camp Chef pellet smoker/grill today. Got a SmokePro ZG from Field&Stream/Dick's Sporting Goods. Very impressed with the packaging and assembly was a breeze. Most of it was already assembled. Just had to install the legs, handle, chimney and rack supports.
