Thorstein Eiriksson (Old Norse: Þórsteinn Eiríksson [ˈθoːrˌstɛinː ˈɛiˌriːksˌson]) was the third and youngest son of Erik the Red. Almost nothing is known about Thorstein's life. According to the Vinland Sagas, Erik the Red settled in Greenland around 986 with his wife and three grown sons, Leif, Thorvald and Thorstein. [1]
As the saga is only partially preserved in surviving manuscripts, the first part has been lost. The text resumes with the protagonist Þorsteinn Síðu-Hallsson going abroad, entrusting his goðorð (chieftaincy) to his friend Þórhaddr.

He was born around 850 AD and was the son of Olaf the White, King of Dublin, and Aud the Deep-minded, who was the daughter of Ketil Flatnose. [1] After the death of Olaf, Aud and Thorstein went to live in the Hebrides, then under Ketil's rule. [2] Thorstein eventually became a warlord and allied with the Jarl of Orkney, Sigurd Eysteinsson. His son, Thorstein, is said to be a good, even-tempered man who does the work of three. He becomes involved in a horse-fight with Thord, a horse-breeder for Bjarni Brodd-Helgason. When it becomes apparent Thord’s horse is losing, Thord strikes Thorstein’s horse. Thorstein then strikes Thord’s horse; Thord in turn strikes Thorstein.
