Encephalartos longifolius is a low-growing palm-like cycad in the family Zamiaceae. It is endemic to South Africa and is commonly known as Thunberg's cycad , breadpalm or broodboom . [ 2 ] This cycad is listed as near threatened in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.
The cycad has tree-shaped trunks that grow up to 4 meters tall and 35 to 60 centimeters wide. Its open crown is woolly brown. The leaves, which are 1 to 1.5 meters long and 18 to 20 centimeters wide, spread horizontally from the trunk. They are stiff, straight, or slightly curved, with young leaves being silvery and becoming yellowish with age.
