"Sam Hall" (Roud 369) is an English folk song about an unrepentant criminal condemned to death for robbing the rich to feed the poor. Prior to the mid-19th century it was called "Jack Hall", after Jack Hall, a thief who was hanged at Tyburn in 1707.
Hall has confessed and recanted confessions to several more rapes and murders. He is currently serving a life sentence at a medium security level federal prison in Butner, N.C., according to CBS News.
This book has several plots. The most important one involves Jack Morgan, the owner of Private, a private investigation company started by his father. Morgan comes back from a trip to find a former girlfriend murdered in his bed. Morgan is the number one suspect of this murder and has to clear himself of it or go to a lengthy trial.
