Great Brak River (Afrikaans: Groot-Brakrivier) is a coastal village in the Mossel Bay Local Municipality in the Western Cape province of South Africa. It is a historic village built around the lagoon of the Great Brak River, 17 kilometres (11 mi) north-northeast of the town of Mossel Bay.
The nearest large town is Mossel Bay towards the east, a 34 km drive to the town centre from Vleesbaai via the R325 and N2, eastbound. The nearest commercial airport is 68 km away at George International Airport, which is also situated towards the east of Vleesbaai.
The majority of the residents of the municipality are in the city of George, which as of 2011 has a population of 157,394. [5] Close to George are the coastal resorts of Herolds Bay (pop. 704) and Wilderness (pop. 6,164). Haarlem (pop. 2,376) and Uniondale (pop. 4,525) are in the interior of the municipality at the top of the Langkloof.
The local history 19th-century artefacts and 20th-century photographs are also displayed in this building. The building houses a life-size replica of the ship that was used by Bartolomeu Dias and his crew when they landed in Mossel Bay 1488.
