Liberty Union High School District is a public school district based in northeastern Contra Costa County, California. California High School (CHS) is a public high school in South Whittier, California and belongs to the Whittier Union High School District. "Calhi", as it is known, is home to the Condors, with around 2,250 students currently attending. The mascot is the condor and the school colors are navy and gold.
In 2008, the school was named a National Blue Ribbon School. CHS was the only school in San Diego County to win the award. [10] In 2016, CHS was ranked 433rd nationally and 70th amongst California high schools in the USNews list of "Best High Schools", out of more than 27,000 public high schools. [11]
Brentwood School remained Grades 7-12 until 1995 when, under the guidance of Headmaster Hunter M. Temple, the school purchased the Marymount Junior School campus and opened the Lower Division. With the opening of the Lower Division in fall 1995, the school became Grades K-6 on the West Campus and Grades 7–12 on the East Campus.
In 2003 bids were taken for the construction of the school. [3] The school grew every year until it reached the capacity of all four classes (freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior) in 2008. The Heritage High School class of 2008 was the highest grade each year it was at Heritage, and was its first graduating class.
