Scott Alexander Young (April 14, 1918 – June 12, 2005) was a Canadian journalist, sportswriter, and novelist. He was the father of musicians Neil Young and Astrid Young. [1] Over his career, Young wrote 45 books, including novels and non-fiction for adult and youth audiences.
Young's parents married in 1940 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and moved to Toronto shortly thereafter where their first son, Robert "Bob" Young, was born in 1942. Shortly after Young's birth in 1945, the family moved to rural Omemee, Ontario , which Young later described fondly as a "sleepy little place."
Vendela Astrid Young (born August 16, 1962 [2] [3]) is a Canadian musician, artist, author and sommelier. She is the daughter of journalist, sportswriter, and novelist Scott Young and his second wife Astrid Carlson, and the half-sister of fellow musician Neil Young .
