Bottles of ink from Germany Writing ink and a quill. Ink is a gel, sol, or solution that contains at least one colorant, such as a dye or pigment, and is used to color a surface to produce an image, text, or design. Ink is used for drawing or writing with a pen, brush, reed pen, or quill.
In the CMYK model, it is the opposite: white is the natural color of the paper or other background, and black results from a full combination of colored inks. To save cost on ink, and to produce deeper black tones, unsaturated and dark colors are produced by using black ink instead of or in addition to combinations of cyan, magenta, and yellow.
To reproduce the web color cyan in inks, it is necessary to add some white ink to the printer's cyan below, so when it is reproduced in printing, it is not a primary subtractive color. It is called aqua (a name in use since 1598) because it is a color commonly associated with water , such as the appearance of the water at a tropical beach.
When a submerged fabric is removed from a dyebath of white indigo the dye quickly combines with oxygen in the air and reverts to the insoluble, intensely colored indigo. The reduction step is typically achieved with sodium dithionite , hydroxyacetone and hydrogen, or by electrochemical methods.
The ink cartridges used are also shown. CcMmYK, sometimes referred to as CMYKLcLm or CMYKcm, is a six-color printing process used in some inkjet printers optimized for photo printing. [1] It complements the more common four-color CMYK process, which uses only cyan, magenta, yellow and black, by adding light cyan and light magenta.
Four inks are used: three secondary colors plus black. These ink colors are cyan, magenta, yellow and key ; abbreviated as CMYK. Cyan can be thought of as minus-red, magenta as minus-green and yellow as minus-blue. These inks are semi-transparent (translucent).
An illustrative example is the Hypercolor fashion, where microcapsules with crystal violet lactone, weak acid, and a dissociable salt dissolved in dodecanol are applied to the fabric. When the solvent is solid, the dye exists in its lactone leuco form, while when the solvent melts, the salt dissociates, the pH inside the microcapsule lowers ...
