Iowa State fielded baseball as an official sports team from 1892 until the conclusion of the 2000–2001 season. Iowa State discontinued baseball due to budget constraints, but it remains as a club sport. Iowa State had a 1,346–1,412–17 all-time record including a 7–6 NCAA tournament record and two appearances in the College World Series.
Primarily used for college football, it is the home field of the Iowa State Cyclones. It is named in honor of Jack Trice, Iowa State's first African American athlete, who died of injuries sustained during a 1923 game against Minnesota. The stadium opened on September 20, 1975, with a 17–12 win over Air Force.
Iowa and Iowa State played each other 24 times between 1894 and 1934, before the Cy-Hawk Trophy was established. It was originally conceived and created as a traveling trophy by the Greater Des Moines Athletic Club in 1976, the trophy was first presented to the winner by Iowa Governor Robert D. Ray in 1977.
