It was the second international exhibition to be held in Australia, the first being held the previous year in Sydney. 1.459 million people visited the exhibition, made a profit of £1,570. [3] The exhibition was also opened for entertainment and tourism.
The exhibition was intended to celebrate women's work and to educate, [40] and it directly inspired the formation of the Arts and Crafts Society of Victoria in 1908, which in turn worked to expand technical training for women.
