Local Natives is an American indie rock band formed in Orange County, California, and based in Los Angeles.The band currently consists of Taylor Rice (vocals, guitar), Ryan Hahn (guitar, backing vocals), Matthew Frazier (drums) and Nik Ewing (bass, keyboards, vocals).
Taylor Rice wrote the song's lyrics and the music was conceived by the band as a whole. Before its digital and commercial release, "Past Lives" was featured in the episode "7th" from the first season of the Netflix series Flaked, which was released on March 11, 2016. [2]
Lead singer Taylor Rice was inspired to write the song after a trip to Big Sur, California, he took with his then-girlfriend (now wife).On the trip, Rice's girlfriend cut his long hair short, leading him to "come to terms with what it means to want to be vulnerable with someone forever".
