The Nashville Superspeedway in Lebanon, Tennessee has hosted American open-wheel car racing racing events dating back to 2001. The 2001 event marked the first American open-wheel event in the Nashville area. During some years events were held on Saturday nights. The 2007 event was postponed until Sunday after a series of rain showers at the track.

On September 16, 2020, the IndyCar Series announced the addition of the Music City Grand Prix as a street circuit race in downtown Nashville for its 2021 schedule. [1] [2] This announcement came after three years of discussion between Nashville sports and tourism officials and IndyCar executives, which had previously resulted in three failed proposals for a race in Nashville.

The 2021 Big Machine Music City Grand Prix was an IndyCar motor race held on August 8, 2021 at the Nashville Street Circuit in Nashville, Tennessee. [1] It was the eleventh round of the 2021 IndyCar Series and the ninth edition of the Music City Grand Prix (following changes made in 2024), the first on the street circuit.
