Pinegrove is an American rock band formed in Montclair, New Jersey in 2010. The band's lineup is largely fluid and variable, with singer-songwriter Evan Stephens Hall and drummer Zack Levine representing its core members. The two met as children and played in various bands before founding Pinegrove.
Evan Stephens Hall (born May 6, 1989) is an American singer-songwriter and musician. Hall is best known as the lead singer & guitarist [1] of indie rock band Pinegrove.Born in New York City, Hall grew up the son of a musician father, and took instrument lessons locally.
The band's frontman, singer-songwriter Evan Stephens Hall, however, decided to return home, where he and drummer Zack Levine produced Cardinal. Cardinal was recorded in the duo's parents' basements in Montclair. Hall wrote the lyrics for the album, which are semi-autobiographical and touch on themes of love, space, and distance.
The album was produced by the band's frontman, singer-songwriter Evan Stephens Hall, as well as guitarist Sam Skinner. As with the band's previous album, Marigold was recorded and mixed at Amperland, a rural farmhouse occupied by the group in upstate New York. Marigold is the band's first full-length on Rough Trade, with whom they signed in 2019.
