The Banjhakri Falls and Energy Park is a recreation centre and tourist attraction near Gangtok, in the state of Sikkim, India. The park's statuary and other displays document the Ban Jhakri, or traditional shamanic healer who worships spirits living in caves around the falls. Ban means "forest", and jhākri means "healer". [2] [5] In 1642, Phuntsog Namgyal, the grandson of Khye Bumsa was crowned the first Chogyal of Sikkim at Yuksom by Rimpoche Lhatsun Chempo, the founder of the Nyingmapa order in Sikkim. This event is also marked by the Statue of Unity installed opposite to Tourist Information Office and close to the Thakur Bari Temple in Gangtok. [4] [5]
Tashiding Monastery (Sikkimese: བཀྲ་ཤིས་སྡིངས་དགོན་པ་, Wylie: bkra shis sdings dgon pa) is a Buddhist monastery of the Nyingma sect of Tibetan Buddhism in Tashiding, about 27 km from Gyalshing city in Gyalshing district in northeastern Indian state of Sikkim. which is the most sacred and holiest monasteries in Sikkim.
In 1977 North Sikkim district became home to Khangchendzonga National Park, which has an area of 1,784 km 2 (688.8 sq mi). [14] It shares the park with West Sikkim district . It is also home to the Shingba ( rhododendron ) Wildlife Sanctuary , which was established in 1984 and has an area of 43 km 2 (16.6 sq mi).
