1.Decision Making: Social Security Administrative Law Judges conduct non-adversarial, fact-finding proceedings involving voluminous data in a fast-paced work environment. They must be able to make decisions promptly and adjudicate large numbers of cases.
These are Administrative Law Judge (Series 0935) positions. These are the same jobs in the Office of Medicare Hearings and Appeals (Deputy Chief ALJ, AL-2, located in Arlington; Associate Chief ALJ, AL-2, 1 each in Irvine, California, and Atlanta) that are being discussed in Christina's post that came on the board yesterday, 31 March.
With the immigration judge shortages, many IJ's have been detailed for a week or two to immigration courts far from their home courts (e.g. New York to Texas). These assigned details (in other words, not volunteer details) may ease as IJ hiring progresses and the courts become more fully staffed.
