The Zürcher Theater Spektakel (Zürich Theatre Spectacle) is an international theatre and performing arts festival, held annually each summer in Zürich, Switzerland.First held in 1980, [1] the festival invites 20-25 different performing arts groups and artists from around the world to take part each year. [2]
Before Fasnacht starts, various events (Vorfasnachtsveranstaltungen) take place. Some of them are used for experiments with the Fasnacht topic, such as Fasnachts-Musicals or concerts with traditional Fasnacht instruments and crossovers with "classic" instruments. Most of these events also feature Schnitzelbanks or other satiric elements.
It enjoys a reputation as one of the "best literary festivals in the world". [1] The main stage of the festival is located in the midst of the sprawling nature of the Old Botanical Garden in Zürich. The Festival is jointly presented by Literaturhaus Zürich and Kaufleuten, the two major institutions for literary events in Zürich.
