The Purple Rose Theatre Company is a 501(c) non-profit regional theater located in Chelsea, Michigan. It was founded in 1991 [ 1 ] by actor and playwright Jeff Daniels . [ 2 ] Its name comes from the 1985 film The Purple Rose of Cairo , [ 3 ] which starred Daniels and for which he earned his first Golden Globe nomination.
Open auditions were held between January and February in Seattle, Portland (Oregon), Birmingham (Alabama), Memphis, Nashville, Savannah, Raleigh, Norfolk and Columbus. New Orleans , San Antonio , New York City , Los Angeles and Chicago also held open auditions (along with judges' auditions from March to May).
