Mithila painting featuring God Shiva-Parvati and the Mahavidyas Madhubani art (also known as Mithila art ) is a style of painting practiced in the Mithila region of India and Nepal. It is named after the Madhubani district of Bihar , India, which is where it originated. [ 1 ]
Baua Devi was a teenager when she met Kulkarni and was the youngest of the group of artists who formally transferred Mithila art from walls, where it was traditionally practised as mural art, to paper. Bhaskar Kulkarni took their works to museums and later encouraged Baua Devi to come to the National Crafts Museum.
Dulari's work follows the Madhubani art tradition (sometimes called Mithila art), a folk art school that developed in the Indian state of Bihar.She practices both, the ‘Kachnhi' (line sketching) ‘and ‘Bharni’ (colored) styles of Madhubani but has indicated a preference for the latter.
