Montauk State Park is a public recreation area occupying nearly 3,000 acres (1,200 ha) at the headwaters of the Current River, fifteen miles (24 km) southwest of Salem, Missouri. The state park contains a fish hatchery and is noted for its rainbow and brown trout angling.

Montauk is an unincorporated community in southwestern Dent County, Missouri, United States. [1] It is located on Route 119, on the Current River and is in the Ozark National Scenic Riverways. Montauk State Park, famed for its rainbow and brown trout, is here. A post office called Montauk was in operation from 1851 to 1974. [2]
Conveniently located off of I-70 west, this park has a very nice campground and some beautiful hiking trails. I started a two-week road trip this week and decided to stop to visit this cave.
The Current River begins in Montauk State Park located in the southwestern corner of Dent County in southeastern Missouri. The confluence of Pigeon Creek and Montauk Spring form the headwaters of the river. Montauk Spring makes up most of the consistent flow of the headwaters, providing ideal conditions for trout fishing.
