The school is an aviation- and aerospace-themed STEM school and one of the Highline School District's small schools. It is focused on preparing students for college, careers, and citizenship. The school serves about 400 students in grades 9-12 from around Puget Sound. Until 2013 it was known as Aviation High School.
Raisbeck was a major donor to Highline School District's Aviation High School. [18] Since moving to its new facility adjacent to Seattle's Museum of Flight it is now known as Raisbeck Aviation High School. Raisbeck died on August 31, 2021, at the age of 84. [19]

In the 2015-2016 school year, the school district had a total of 6,697 students, ranging from early childhood education and pre-kindergarten through grade 12. The class of 2015 included 397 graduates; the annual drop-out rate across grades 9-12 was 1.8%. [3]
Superintendent Walter Dansby, who started his FWISD career circa 1974, began his term in 2012. His base salary was $338,817.60. He resigned on Monday June 2, 2014,; the following day the district announced his severance pay, to be doled out over a seven month period, would be over $900,000.
