Planned at first for a population of 25,000, Bracknell New Town was further expanded in the 1960s to accommodate a population of 45,000. During this time, Bracknell absorbed many of its surrounding villages including Easthampstead, Ramslade and Old Bracknell. As of 2021, Bracknell Forest has an estimated population of around 113,205.
Concurrent with the changes wrought by the Local Government Act 1972, the council would transition to a new Bracknell District Council, the first election being held in 1973. Until 2023, this would be the last election for a Bracknell-based council where a majority of seats were outside Bracknell town. [3]

The Staff College at Bracknell was formed by transferring a major portion of the Staff College at Bulstrode Park to Ramslade House in July 1945. Air Vice-Marshal Ronald Graham, the then Commandant at Bulstrode Park, became the first commandant at Bracknell. [2] On 1 May 1946 the Staff College was placed under the control of Reserve Command.
