The Bowman-Pirkle House is a historic two-story log house in Buford, Georgia. It was built in 1818 for John Bowman, who served under General Andrew Jackson during the First Seminole War of 1816–1819. [2] The house was built with the help of Cherokees as a token of the friendship between Bowman and Chief Major Ridge. [2]
Built about 1844–45, it is believed to be the oldest log building in the county. [2] The Arkansas Archives have a negative of the home. [3] Log Builder Paul Glidewell completed the complete restoration of the house in late 2013. It was home to Dr. Stephen Howard Chism (December 14, 1815 [4]-1883). He was the father of Benjamin Boone Chism.
