Lake Parrish, built in the middle of the 1970s by Florida Power & Light (FPL), is a lake that provides water to be used for the Manatee power plant. This lake is surrounded by grassland, except on the southwest corner, where the power plant is located.
It was founded in 1958 as North Brevard Hospital. [1] It expanded facilities in 1964, 1981, and 1991. Construction on an $80 million, 371,000-square-foot (34,500 m 2) replacement hospital began in 2000.
The museum was founded in 1981 as the Florida Gulf Coast Railroad Museum, and has been operating weekend excursions out of Parrish since 1992. The museum is also active in the ghost town of Willow, where it has maintenance facilities. At Willow, there is a railroad spur that leads east off of the mainline to a Florida Power & Light Company plant.
