G-code (abbreviation for Geometric code; also called RS-274) is the most widely used computer numerical control (CNC) and 3D printing programming language. It is used mainly in computer-aided manufacturing to control automated machine tools , as well as for 3D-printer slicer applications .
The majority of G-code programs start with a percent (%) symbol on the first line, then followed by an "O" with a numerical name for the program (i.e. "O0001") on the second line, then another percent (%) symbol on the last line of the program. The format for a G-code is the letter G followed by two to three digits; for example G01.
The NC formats were originally designed by CNC drill and route machine vendors as proprietary input formats for their equipment, and are known under their company name: Excellon, Hitachi, Sieb & Meyer, Posalux, etc. These formats are similar as they are based on RS-274-C and related to G-code. In 1985 IPC published a generic standard NC format ...
G80 is used for cancelling the currently selected canned cycle as G-codes for canned cycles are modal. If the machine control supports it, the user may create their own custom canned cycles. As there are numbers not already used for G-codes, [5] new canned cycle programs can be stored at these vacant locations. This may be done on the popular ...

CNC (computer numerical control) is the modern manufacturing method in which machinist use a form of programming called G-code to make components for a wide variety of industries. CNC programming is a highly skilled position. Programmers are usually machinist as well.
"Another recent evolution of the G-code programming environment is the integration of MTConnect, which makes the data of the G-code runtime environment available over internet protocol using open standards (XML schemas, XSLT, et al). For example, MTConnect wraps a block of G-code in XML tags and sends it to the mobile phone of the machine owner ...
