The first game in the series titled Tenchu: Stealth Assassins was developed by Japanese developer Acquire and published in 1998.
Tenchu 2: Birth of the Stealth Assassins [a] (published in Japan as "Rittai Ninja Katsugeki: Tenchu 2") is a 2000 stealth video game developed by Acquire for the PlayStation. The second entry in the Tenchu series, it was published in the West by Activision and in Japan by Acquire.
The game has been met with positive-to-mixed reviews. Writing for Commodore Power/Play, Tom Benford praised the game: "Stealth is software par excellence. Tenchu: Stealth Assassins is a stealth video game where players take on the role of either Rikimaru or Ayame, ninja who complete a set of eleven sandbox levels. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] [ 3 ] While generally similar, Rikimaru has more health but is slower and has only one blade, while Ayame is weaker but uses two blades and has higher movement speed.
Tenchu Z is the largest game in the series to date, containing 50 missions with different difficulty settings and objectives. Characters also have different attributes (which are strength, agility, and health) which can be altered.
