The Bhanga–Kuakata line is a planned railway line in Bangladesh to connect Bhanga with the beach city of Kuakata in Patuakhali. [1] It is planned to build by 2030. [ 2 ] It will also connect Barisal Division to the rest of Bangladesh.
But after the partition of the country in 1947, the railway communication between the two countries was cut off. The direct rail link between Khulna in then East Pakistan and North Bengal was disrupted. So very quickly the then provincial government quickly laid a new railway line from Darshana Junction to Jessore Junction by 1951. [1] [2]
On 27 September 2021, the government of Bangladesh appointed a joint venture led by RITES Limited as the consultant for the project. [3] Executive Committee of the National Economic Council approved the project on 30 October 2018. SMEC International submitted their pre-survey in 2010 after getting pre-survey responsibility for the railway project.
It operates and maintains all railways in the country, and is overseen by the Directorate General of Bangladesh Railway. The Bangladesh Railway is governed by the Ministry of Railways and the Bangladesh Railway Authority with a reporting mark known as "BR". [5] The Bangladesh Railway system has a total length of 3,600 kilometres (2,200 mi). [6]
