Superstar is one of several Croatian iterations based on the Idol format. Nova TV previously aired Hrvatski Idol, which ran for two seasons between 2004 and 2005. RTL, the same network that airs Superstar, previously aired Hrvatska traži zvijezdu (English: Star Search Croatia), which ran for three seasons between 2009 and 2011.
Since 1 October 2007, RTL Crime was launched on Sky Deutschland. [1] On 1 September 2011, a localised feed of the channel was launched in the Netherlands. On 15 May 2012, the channel launched its own high-definition simulcast feed, which started to be carried on Unitymedia. On 25 September 2014, RTL Crime HD was launched on Sky Deutschland.
The third season premiered on 16 October 2009 on RTL and ended on 19 December 2009. The judge line-up remained the same from season two. Due to the high viewing figures in the second season, RTL Television increased the number of the audition episodes from four to seven and the number of the semifinalists from 24 to 30.
