The Shonar Bangla Express (Train no. 787/788) is an inter-city rail service run by Bangladesh Railway. This service provides a swift and luxurious passenger rail connection between the capital of Bangladesh, Dhaka to the port city of Chattogram. This service only has one intermediate stop at Dhaka Airport. [1]
The Dhaka Circular Railway (Bengali: ঢাকা চক্ররেল, romanized: Dhaka Chokrorel) is a proposed orbital suburban rail system which is expected to serve Dhaka and Greater Dhaka once completed, and reduce traffic marginally in the city.
It operates and maintains all railways in the country, and is overseen by the Directorate General of Bangladesh Railway. The Bangladesh Railway is governed by the Ministry of Railways and the Bangladesh Railway Authority with a reporting mark known as "BR". On May 31, 2018, Bangladesh Railway signed an agreement with the China Railway Design Corporation and Mazumder Enterprise. [3] This contract is designed to verify the design and feasibility of proposed high-speed train lines. According to this agreement, feasibility and design work will be completed in December 2019 at a cost of Tk102.10 crore.
