The Physics and Astronomy Classification Scheme (PACS) is a scheme developed in 1970 [1] by the American Institute of Physics (AIP) for classifying scientific literature using a hierarchical set of codes. [2] PACS has been used by over 160 international journals, [1] including the Physical Review series since 1975.
The subject codes so listed are used by the two major reviewing databases, Mathematical Reviews and Zentralblatt MATH. This list has some items that would not fit in such a classification, such as list of exponential topics and list of factorial and binomial topics , which may surprise the reader with the diversity of their coverage.
MathSciNet is a searchable online bibliographic database created by the American Mathematical Society in 1996. [2] It contains all of the contents of the journal Mathematical Reviews (MR) since 1940 along with an extensive author database, links to other MR entries, citations, full journal entries, and links to original articles.
