He was an officer in Walker’s army. Back in the U.S. in 1859, he married Ellen Virginia Allen. The couple had three children. During the Civil War, he was captured by Union forces outside of Baton Rouge, Louisiana in 1864. After the war, in 1879, Allen moved to Texas, where he became the operator of a cotton press. [11]
