Parkroyal Collection Pickering, Singapore (formerly known as PARKROYAL on Pickering), is a luxury five-star hotel located in Singapore's Central Area. It is owned by the Singaporean investment and property development company UOL Group .
The first hotel of the luxury Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts Group was the Shangri-La Hotel Singapore, opened on 23 April 1971. [4] The name derives from the mythical place Shangri-La, described in the 1933 novel Lost Horizon by British author James Hilton.
The construction of the Singapore Hilton was announced in The Straits Times on 1 November 1963, along with its sister hotel, the Kuala Lumpur Hilton. [3] Singapore had joined as one of the states in the new nation of Malaysia only weeks before. The two hotels were financed by businessman Cho Jock Kim, head of Far East Publishers.
